Default Violent Christmas-Paintball/airsoft

Background/facts:

I have 2-9year old boys.
The want a paintball gun for Christmas.
We have a decent sized backyard.
One is pretty tough, the other whines when he gets the tiniest of cuts.
We do not have a "field" to play at so any play would be backyard.

1) So, DO I go for paintball guns and masks and risk them never wanting to play because of bruising or do I go the airsoft and mask route because of the lower FPS?

2) I've been looking around and it looks difficult but is there anyway to get them started for 50-60$ apiece? The masks look like they run 20 which doesn't leave a lot for a gun.

3)Are these garbage? They claim 360 FPS.

I think Derhelm and some of the others played airsoft long ago. What's a good starter setup for someone just to shoot their brother and dad in the backyard.

On the subject of "Are they garbage?"
Yes they are.

But I will say this, if this is just a passing fun thing for the hell of it, sure hwy not. There is not much info on the guns, so I am guessing they are electric and not gas, and the fps on them would be either low or would be 350 due to a lighter weight BB. In that case, you would only need goggles, not a full face mask. Even playing playing in the big games, only the first times would wear masks.

I say go for the paintball as that's what they want, and bug some blue tarp and blow up obstacles.

I would recommend Airsoft over paintball. You'll be in the back yard and you don't want them shooting at the house etc. Pellets aren't that big of a deal and clean up way easier than paint.

You could always take them to a paintball place instead and see if they like it? Bound to be something near you.

Opinions ? Alternatives?

http://www.amazon.com/JT-Raptor-Pain...intball+pistol

http://www.amazon.com/JT-ER2-S-Pump-...intball+pistol

http://www.amazon.com/Empire-Paintba...intball+pistol

How adjustable are the masks? Can they fit a 9 year old?

http://www.amazon.com/Brass-Eagle-Am...=paintball+gun

Also found out this is 20 miles from my house:

http://www.apgob.com/apgob_about_us.html

Prices look steep for a day out though and they make 9 year olds play jtsplatmaster whatever that is...

Wish I could help at the paintball stuff, but I never touched the stuff myself.

I played a tiny bit years and years ago in college. Only twice at a field. Other than that it was just my friends and I running around in forest.

The splatmaster stuff feels like over coddling my children.

Warning I can provide nothing productive to this conversation.

The only thing I can think of is "they'll shoot their eyes out!"
